We are a family run business, and our mission is to make sure you and your precious ones feel like part of the family as well.
Please read on to get to know us, and why we do what we do.
Growing up on a farm in country New South Wales, animals were an integral part of my
family's life. Surrounded by dogs, cats, cattle, sheep, and more, my upbringing instilled in me a deep-seated passion for animal care and welfare. From a young age, I knew I wanted to become a veterinarian.
In 2003, I graduated with honours from the University of Queensland Veterinary School,
marking the beginning of my professional journey. Over the years, I've accumulated a wealth of experience in both large and small animal practice throughout Queensland.
Its been my focus on small animal surgery, however, that has distinguished my career and led to recognition as a skilled and trusted veterinarian on the Sunshine Coast and beyond.
My career has been driven by a commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine and a
genuine love for animals.
Growing up in Murrumbateman, Canberra, my love for animals led me to begin my journey in veterinary nursing in 2001. Taking a break in 2007, I pursued becoming a paramedic, driven by a desire to extend my care to human patients as well.
In my roles as a veterinary nurse and paramedic, I've been fortunate to continually learn and grow, striving to improve my skills in caring for both animals and humans. I've aimed to approach client and patient care with a warmth, calmness, and comfort that I hope brings solace to those I serve.
In recent years, amidst changes in the veterinary field and beyond, my wife Sarah and I felt
compelled to rethink our approach. Together, we've focused on fostering trusting
relationships and ensuring that the bond between pets and their families remains our top
priority. This shared commitment led us to establish Prestige Vets, where we aim to provide exceptional care for our patients and outstanding service for our clients. It's a privilege to contribute to our community's veterinary care needs in this way.
Julie (Jules) started her veterinary nursing career at the young age of 16 in her hometown of Hull, where she embarked on a six-month work experience placement at a local veterinary clinic. Her natural talent for nursing shone through from the beginning, and despite her youth, she quickly assumed the role of Team Leader during her seven-year tenure there.
When Julie and her husband Dave emigrated to Australia, they initially settled in Melbourne. During her time there, Julie worked at a cat clinic during the day and at an emergency hospital during after-hours, where Dave also practiced as a veterinarian. After their stint in Melbourne, they moved to Coffs Harbour before finally settling in Maroochydore in the early 90s, where they established their own highly respected veterinary practice. After decades of running one of the most trusted clinics on the coast, they recently sold the practice with plans to enjoy retirement and embark on new adventures.
However, retirement didn't keep Julie away for long. She returned to work part-time
alongside Sarah and Jayney, focusing on her special interests in anesthesia and pain
management.
At home, Julie and Dave share their lives with four cats, two of whom were rescues from
their practice, and they recently welcomed two new Devon Rex kittens into their family.
While Julie may not always be seen during your visit to Prestige Vets, her expertise and care are integral to your pet's treatment, always accompanied by plenty of affectionate cuddles.
Julie's extensive experience, unwavering capability, and exceptional dedication to patient care make her an invaluable and cherished member of the Prestige Vets team.
Sonia grew up on the coastal beaches of Adelaide, and always had a great love for the outdoors, escpecially all kinds of wildlife and animals.
Her passion for scuba diving, sailing, snorkelling and surfing and a sense of adventure led her to travel the world for many years, with the highlight of this time being a stint working on Safari in Africa.
Career wise, Sonia worked for 15 years as an Enrolled Nurse on post surgical wards in human hospitals. When she moved to the Sunshine Coast, Sonia finally pursued a life long passion to help and care for animals, and completed a Diploma in Certificate 4 Veterinary Nursing and worked in a busy Vet clinic for 4 years.
Sonia has recently returned to Vet nursing after raising her beautiful family and spending her spare time volunteering at several animal shelters.
Her love for animals has always been a big part of her life, and she now shares that love with her 3 beautiful kelpies and all the special animals that come to Prestige Vets.
Surrounded by animal companions on a rural property in country Victoria during her early
years, Emma's childhood aspirations always leaned towards a career in the veterinary
industry. Life led her down different paths, however, and she has since forged a successful
career in business growth and management across diverse sectors. Emma's focus on authentic marketing and her passion for creative problem-solving have enabled her to assist others in achieving their goals more effectively and efficiently.
Several years ago, Emma and her husband bid farewell to their beloved dog and cat,
prompting them to transition their lives to an online platform. This change allows them the
freedom to travel extensively, punctuated by stints on the Sunshine Coast where they indulge their love for animals by pet-sitting and caring for homes.
Working with Prestige Vets is a realization of Emma's long-held dream, where she applies her expertise behind the scenes from anywhere in the world. When not traveling, Emma eagerly supports Dr. Sarah and Jayney in the clinic, relishing her favorite role of connecting in person with the community of pet owners and showering our patients with affectionate pats and cuddles.
